OBJECTIVE:
Respond to the site stimulus at Sutro Baths in San Francisco, CA by designing a sculptural element.

RESPONSE:
I chose the wind with 3 different responses at 3 different locations - protection on the cliff with the helmet, alignment with the octopus in the ocean, and separation with the bamboo in the bath.

INDIVIDUAL ELEMENTS:
1. The helmet is an enclosed structure set against the cliff and perched upon the highest point overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The helmet  closes when the wind blows and opens upon its absence.
2. The octopus is relaxed until the wind gusts and then it begins to align itself with the wind to seek the path of least resistance.
4. The bamboo sits as a linear wall juxtaposed at a 72-degree angle to the sea. As the wind gains force and contacts the sails the wall itself separates into individual pieces that actually facilitate the wind and its movement.
